A decline in the usage of proper language in Malaysia have caused a worry among teachers and lecturers. Many students can not communicate formally in English and Malay. Conversational language have mixed both languages, that it is not uncommon to use several Malay and English words in the same sentence. In an academic environment where formal use of language is expected, many students face difficulties. To compound matters even worse, students no longer refer to dictionaries as this is seen as troublesome and slow, and moreover, to carry around a thick dictionary, or several thick dictionaries in a Malaysian case, is heavy and not practical. This has resulted in software companies like Amaniz Management Sdn Bhd, to create a trilingual software dictionary called Carikata e-Kamus that also serves as a Malay to English translator, and a Malay language Spell Checker.
